Be The Change.
Everyone deserves the right to create positive change and contribute to their nation's empowerment, just as they have the right to advance in any career. This universal opportunity should be accessible without compromising one's cultural identity or facing systemic barriers. However, genuine diversity initiatives in businesses must prioritize inclusion over tokenism, ensuring that no group feels unfairly treated. True progress involves dismantling systemic barriers for BIPOC individuals without disadvantaging others, fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of their background, has equal opportunities to contribute positively to their communities and advance in their chosen fields.
It’s all about empowering individuals to make them realize their full potential.

By acknowledging the intersections of identity, including class, AOTP can create a platform that genuinely supports all marginalized youth, irrespective of their background.
Key Difficulties We Aim To Overcome
Underrepresentation
BIPOC individuals are often underrepresented in key positions within the media industry. This lack of representation can limit their access to opportunities, mentorship, and resources needed to advance in their careers or establish successful businesses.
Implicit Bias and Discrimination
BIPOC individuals may encounter implicit bias and overt discrimination in hiring, promotion, and partnership opportunities. These discriminatory practices can hinder their career progression and limit their ability to advance to leadership roles or secure key collaborations.
Stereotyping and Misrepresentation
BIPOC individuals are frequently subjected to stereotypes and misrepresentation in the media. This perpetuates harmful narratives, reinforces biases, and can hinder their chances of being recognized for their talents, skills, and capabilities. It also affects the types of stories told and the perspectives shared in the media.
Implicit Bias and Discrimination
In media content creation and entrepreneurship, there can be a lack of understanding or sensitivity to diverse cultures. BIPOC individuals may face challenges when trying to express their cultural identities or when trying to cater to diverse audiences due to a lack of cultural awareness within the industry.
Access To Capital
Entrepreneurship often requires financial investment to start and sustain a business. BIPOC entrepreneurs may face challenges in securing funding due to systemic biases in financial systems. Discrimination in lending practices and lack of access to venture capital contribute to this issue, limiting their ability to scale their businesses.
Lack of Inclusive Policies
The absence of inclusive policies and diversity initiatives within media organizations and entrepreneurial ecosystems contributes to the perpetuation of systemic racism. Implementing inclusive policies that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion is crucial for breaking down barriers and creating a more level playing field.
Network Disparities
Success in both media and entrepreneurship often relies on networking and building connections. Systemic racism can result in BIPOC individuals having limited access to influential networks, mentors, and industry connections, making it harder for them to navigate and succeed in these competitive fields.
The Telephone Game Fuels More Exclusion
Many companies prioritize these efforts disingenuously, which not only disadvantages those outside the favored demographics, but also dilutes the empowerment associated with diversity initiatives. To uphold true empowerment, diversity efforts must be coupled with inclusivity strategies that prioritize making everyone feel valued and respected. Achieving this involves promoting open communication, offering diversity education, and dismantling systemic barriers to inclusion.
